Who is behind this blog?

Some of you already know quite a bit about me already; but I thought it good to introduce myself to you. I'm Michel François, a sculptor, 31 years old living in Cornwall (southwest england) with my partner and our two children Tarn (2 and a half) and Rowan (3 months).
First I followed an aprenticship in Bonn with German sculptressPetra Siering, followed by a Foundation course at Camberwell college of art in London and a year of study at the school of sculpture in Endinburgh; to then finish my studies at the Falmouth college of art, as well as being assistant to irish sculptor Tim Shaw Tim Shaw
After my studies I worked as a public art sculptor for Roger Michellthe Arts co-ordinator of 'artonic'.
I have taken part in exhibitions as well as having solo shows both in France and in the UK.

I have been sculpting for 16 years now and have found affinity with many materials be it stone, plaster, new synthetics, glass or bronze; but at the heart of it all for me there is clay.
So earthy and direct, it brings out an inexplainable subtlety of expression.
Delicate, tempermental, it requires diligence and presence of mind.

I am totally obsessed with tea and have combined this with my love of clay.
A book 'The unknown craftsman' from Yanagi was also instrumental in getting me started with making teaware.
In it he talks of 'beauty' and 'simplicity' as subtle and subjective values that neither money nor fame can guarantee.

A cynic might say that in a fast world who has the time to experience these subtle and subjective qualities anyway?
Who has time for drinking tea?

But before I ramble on any longer on this philosophical subject I must continue to explain my purpose for this blog.
To share with you my quest in providing you with 'sensual' hand carved teaware.
Thus I will open studio week by week so as you can see the making process.

C'est merveilleux Michel my bro, je vois de beaux Yunomi(s) qui traînent sur une ou deux étagères, va falloir que l'on en discute...

J'aimerais vraiment posséder quelque chose qui vient de ton travail.

Will send you an e-mail sooner than I need...
